Being able to teach young children the skills to process, analyze, reason, judge, and apply knowledge, gave me the important realizations that I will carry on with me throughout my life. On that note, here are the 5 Profound Lessons I Learnt From Teaching Young Minds

1. LEARN TO THINK, THINK TO LEARN

This principle guided us every time we step in the classroom. Our purpose is clear: to teach the kids how to think and not what to think. The fundamental aspects of schooling are cognitive skills, which are rarely taught in school. Hence, it is important for the parents and the teachers to stimulate the child's abilities.

2. STIMULATE THE CHILD'S SENSES

Stimulating the child’s senses enables development of visual, auditory, and motor skills. I noticed that allowing the children to engage in educational games would not only increase their happiness but also flourish their creativity.

3. TALK IN THEIR TONE

When communicating with children, I realized that it is best to speak the language that they understand. Also, it is vital to be direct and be specific when giving instructions. Through this, children are able to meet the desired goals with better understanding of the activities.

4. CHILDREN LOVE TO INTERACT

Children enjoy sharing laughs, games, and stories with their fellow classmates during playtime. It is amazing to see how most children have the innate need to connect with their friends regardless of their gender, age, or ethnicity.

5. CURIOSITY FUELS LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT

It is a fact that curiosity is at its peak during childhood. Often, the children would ask us countless questions that we answer intellectually. It is a good way to foster learning. Curiosity drives people to explore and understand the world they live in. On the other hand, anxiety (e.g., reluctance to explore) and fear (e.g., fear of failing) handicaps the child to learn. The good news is that, giving the children the abilities to perform better in school will boost their confidence and motivate their development. Stimulating one's curiosity takes conscious effort from both the teachers and the parents.
